About the Board

Duties & Responsibilities

Michigan’s General Property Tax Act mandates that a Board of Review be composed of local citizens who examine & review the assessments in order to correct errors in the names, descriptions, and assessments.

Meeting Times

The Board of Review will also meet in July and December to review and correct qualified errors, which include clerical errors and mutual mistakes of fact.

The Board of Review also meets to listen to taxpayers who wish to protest their assessment and the Board may grant them relief if such action is appropriate.

The Board of Review meets with the assessor on the Tuesday after the first Monday in March for the organizational meeting and to review the tentative assessment roll.

The Board of Review must also meet the second Monday in March not earlier than 9 a.m. and not later than 3 p.m. for not less than six hours to hear taxpayer appeals.

The Board of Review must also meet an additional six hours during the remainder of that week. Those appearing to file a protest at a scheduled meeting or appointment shall be given an opportunity to be heard by the Board of Review. Additionally, a taxpayer make file an appearance or protest by letter.
