**NOTICE TO RECREATIONAL BURNING PERMIT HOLDERS**

A person engaging in open burning, outdoor burning, recreational burning or a prescribed burn shall be responsible for all fire-suppression costs and any other liability that results from damage caused by a fire. Charter Township of Lansing Ord. # 37-4 permits this recreational fire, only after proper inspection and authorization by the Lansing Township Fire Department, and is subject to all conditions as outlined in the Code of Ordinances for the Charter Township of Lansing.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF LANSING ORDINANCE # 37-4

1. Recreational fire means a small outdoor fire intended for recreation or cooking, but not including a fire intended for disposal of waste wood or refuse. A recreational fire shall have a maximum total fuel area of three feet in diameter and a maximum height of two feet. 2. Application and $25.00 fee must be submitted in person to the Clerk’s office prior to inspection. 3. An annual inspection is required to obtain a recreational fire permit. 4. The recreational burning shall not take place within 25 feet of any structure, unless in an approved patio woodburning unit, which unit shall not be located within 15 feet of any structure. And not within 5 feet of an existing property line. 5. Recreational fires are permitted only at a one- or two-family dwelling in any zoning district. 6. Recreational fire burning is allowed from 07:00 am till 12:00 midnight. 7. Fires must be attended at all times and extinguishing equipment must be nearby. 8. A person who violates any provision of this chapter and/or a burning permit is responsible for a municipal civil infraction. $50.00 first offense, each subsequence offense will double the fine up to a maximum $500.00 in a calendar year.
